Abstract:

The rapid acceleration of demographic aging combined with a paradigm shift in healthcare systems from tertiary hospital treatment to primary health promotion has created an unprecedented demand for competent community nursing professionals. This study theoretically investigates the structural dimensionsof knowledge and skills required by community nursing talents, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative insightsfrom regional and national questionnaire surveys recently conducted in China. By evaluating the multifaceted healthcare needs of community dwellers —particularly the elderly, the disabled, and chronic disease patients—this paper constructs a dual-dimensional conceptual model consisting of "Knowledge Demand Structure" and"Skill Demand Structure." The analysis indicates that the contemporary knowledge demand for community nursesextends far beyond conventional clinical nursing, encompassing public health, chronic disease care, legal-ethical issues, and smart healthcare applications. Correspondingly, the skill demand highlights the equal importanceof clinical operations, crisis intervention, interpersonal communication, and digital health literacy. This structural framework exposes the pedagogical misalignment present in current higher nursing curricula and offers strategicproposals for educational reform and professional training. Ultimately, this study provides a theoretical baselinefor standardized curriculum design, continuing education pathways, and competency evaluation for primary healthcare nursing teams.
