Abstract:

the exhibition economy gains increasing prominence in China's modern service sector, the industry has witnessed a diversification of visitor demographics with distinctly stratified consumption patterns. Age groups exhibit distinct preferences and behavioral patterns in exhibition activities due to variations in life stages, social roles, economic conditions, and value systems, creating multifaceted demands for exhibition services. While existing research predominantly focuses on holistic tourist behavior, studies examining age-specific dimensions remain insufficient to meet the needs of refined exhibition market management. This paper systematically analyzes consumption characteristics and influencing factors across different age groups through the lenses of consumption behavior theory, experience economy theory, and intergenerational differences. It particularly explores disparities in consumption motivations, information acquisition methods, spending structures, service requirements, and psychological expectations among youth, middle-aged, and senior visitors. Furthermore, aligning with industry trends, the study proposes actionable recommendations for exhibition organizers to optimize service product structures, refine market segmentation strategies, and enhance visitor experiences based on age-specific characteristics. Findings reveal that younger demographics prioritize interactive experiences and digital services, middle-aged groups favor business-oriented solutions with professional support and premium amenities, while senior visitors emphasize safety, convenience, and cultural relevance. The interplay of these factors collectively shapes consumption patterns across age groups. The research provides actionable insights for the exhibition industry to implement precision marketing, optimize service offerings, and improve operational efficiency.
